Description
Wedge Locking washers are supplied as a glued pair of washers to enable them to be installed exactly the same as a normal washer but with the added benefit they will maintain the tension in the joint under dynamic loading such as joint movement or vibration.
Once tightening of the joint occurs the glue is designed to allow the washers to separate and rotate against each other to perform the “Wedge Locking” function. See our section how it works for more information on the principle of this Technology.
The Wedge Locking Washers are in line with DIN 25201 to prevent the loosening of fasteners from dynamic loading such as vibration, joint movement and cyclic loading.
Corrosion resistance:
SCM435 Alloy Steel – Delta Protekt KL 600 h base metal corrosion in line with DIN EN ISO 9227-NSS
Stainless Steel – Grades 316L and 254 SMO
Applications:
Oil and Gas, Construction Equipment, General Construction, Bridge Building, Renewable Energy, Recycling, Building Services, Medical, Mining and Quarrying, Forestry and Agriculture, Tunnelling, Commercial Vehicles, Ship Building, Military, Manufacturing and Processing, Railways.
Function:
The wedge surface slope between the two lock washers ensures highly secure locking. The screw connection is locked by pre-tension instead of by friction. See our section on it works for more details.
Benefits:
- Maintains clamp load in high vibration and load applications, thereby proWLting the security of the joint
- Vibration proof and tested according to MIL-STD-1312-7 and DIN 25201
- Suitable for use with fastener grades 8.8, 10.9, 12.9, A2, A4 etc and matching nuts
- Available in standard diameter for normal hole sizes and large diameter for slots and spreading the load where required
- Available in SCM435 Alloy Steel, 316L Stainless Steel and 254 SMO Stainless Steel
- Provided in pre-assembled glued pairs to install like a one-piece washer
- Easy to install and remove with standard tools
- No retightening needed after installation
- Reusable – will not distort threads on the fastener like all metal locking nuts
- Lubrication can be used on the thread without effecting the locking function of the wedge locking washer
- Can be used reliably for joints with short clamping length
- Secures joints with high and low tension in them (Pre-load)
Tightening Recommendations
The tightening of your connection when using Wedge-Locking washers will change very slightly to get the same extension and load in the fastener. This is due to increasing the friction on the clamping surfaces. Please contact us regarding this if you are unsure what you should be tightening the fastener to for the washers to be effective.
A manual check can be made if you tighten your joint to the torque you already do and mark a line across the pair of washers and onto the clamping surface. Untighten the connection and watch for the lines on the washer to separate. If they separate then they have functioned correctly, if not you may need to add additional force but please be careful not to take the fastener into yield.
